Fu Baoshi (Chinese, 1904-1965)

Born in Xinyu in Jiangxi province, Baoshi studied in Japan at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts in 1933. He was director of the Jiangsu Province School of Painting and taught at Central University (now called Nanjing University).  His representations of landscapes use a special technique of dots and revolutionary ink that allowed him to surpass the techniques and rules of traditional Chinese painting.
